My takeaways from the Super Bowl where Tom Brady established himself as the greatest football player of all time (in case there was a doubt before that) winning his seventh Super Bowl Championship.
1) The singing of the national anthem by Eric Church and Jazmine Sullivan along with “God Bless America” by H.E.R. were great, and after the halftime show from something called Weeknd, that’s as much singing as I want in the Super Bowl now.
The game is enough of a spectacle, we don’t need some over produced lip synced sideshow. And please give us a rock or country star or a mix of both. How about Eric Church jamming with AC/DC next yesr?
2) The Buccaneers showed how simple this game can be sometimes. Have a balanced offense, a good defense that can stop the run and get to the quarterback and being on the right side of the turnover ratio will win you championships. The combination of those three things has stood the test of time in the NFL.
3) NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell gets a lot of heat, even from yours truly, but I have to give him credit on how the league weaved through this pandemic to give us a season. It wasn’t easy but they got it done.
4) The only thing that is hard to swallow as a Minnesota sports fan is that Tampa Bay, once called the “Yucaneers” has two Super Bowl trophies now and the Lightning have two Lord Stanley Cups. The long history of the Vikings and “The State of Hockey”=0. So we say it again, “Maybe next year?”
