ST. PAUL, Minn. (KFGO) – A state representative, and medical cannabis patient has introduced a bill to allow Minnesota medical cannabis users to still obtain a gun permit.
Rep. Rod Hamilton of Mountain Lake has multiple sclerosis and says he cannot renew his gun permit because of his participation in the medical cannabis program. That stems from the drug still being listed as a Schedule 1 drug, the same level as illicit narcotics like heroin and L-S-D.
Hamilton’s bill would change the classification of medical cannabis as a Schedule 2 drug, similar to other legal prescriptions.
