WARROAD, Minn. (KFGO) – People living in northwest Minnesota say it started with two men who thought it would be fun to connect their ice rinks on the Warroad River.
Now, the so-called Riverbend Skate Path connects seven rinks and runs for two-and-a-half miles along the river. Jared Olafson says it’s not unusual for him to look out and see headlamps bobbing along the skate path at 10 p.m. The path is maintained by plow attached ATV’s and Polaris Industries in nearby Roseau donated a power broom.
The people maintaining the path eventually hope to get a Zamboni so they can get a professional finish.
