FARGO (KFGO) – Police and Red River Valley SWAT dealt with a man for several hours early Sat. morning who was believed to be armed with a gun. Joshua O. Hoelanderson barricaded himself in his car in the parking lot of an apartment building. Police issued a shelter-in-place in the immediate vicinity of the call in the 1300 blk. of Gateway Drive.
Hoelanderson was tailgating an officer on 13th Ave. S. shortly before 4 a.m. The officer thought he needed assistance and pulled over. Hoelanderson then exited his vehicle to confront the officer and tried to keep the officer from getting out of his squad car. Hoelanderson said he was planning to retrieve a gun from his car. He then drove away.
The officer trailed him to a driveway and called for backup. He barricaded himself in his car. Fargo PD and Red River Valley SWAT team arrived and used an armored skid-steer to lift the vehicle, during which the trunk popped open. Hoelanderson was in the trunk and was taken into custody without incident. At one point officers heard a gunshot.
Police Chief Dave Zibolski said, “It was a very precarious and dangerous situation for some time…Our approach, both from a tactical perspective and safety of our officers perspective was excellent.”
Hoelanderson is from Horace. He was arrested for terrorizing, felony preventing arrest, refusal to halt, and C felony fleeing in a motor vehicle.
