BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota Lt. Gov. Brent Sanford is in quarantine with his family after his wife tested positive for COVID-19. He will not be able to fulfill his role of presiding over the Senate as the 2021 legislative session begins.
Sanford’s spokesman says that Sanford’s wife is asymptomatic. Sanford planned to get his own COVID-19 test Friday. Republican Sen. Randy Burckhard of Minot presided over the Senate on Friday.
The state reported an additional 303 infections on Friday and another 11 deaths from the virus. More than 1,300 people in North Dakota have died from COVID-19 since the pandemic began.
