FARGO (KFGO) – A decision has been made after several months of community input, discussion, and study to rename Fargo’s Woodrow Wilson High School to Dakota High School. The school board’s vote was unanimous.
School Board President Rebecca Knutson says the name change will take place for the new school year.
Knutson says the name “Dakota” could be most popular because of the state name, or what she called, ” a nod to the Indigenous people who were here long before we were.”
Superintendent Rupak Gandhi says the head of the Native American Commission supported the new name. The name was among 129 names that came from community feedback, then narrowed to 26 and finally to five finalists.
