An appetizer, a breakfast item and an easy-to-freeze favorite.
In our house, these sausage balls are Thanksgiving staple. However, if you wanted to prepare and throw them in the freezer, they would make a quick and easy addition to any breakfast.
I can’t remember where I first got this recipe – but it’s become a staple snack while we are preparing our Thanksgiving feast.
Ingredients:
1 lb. sausage (I use Jimmy Deans, you could use hot, if you like it a little spicy)
1 (8 0z.) package of cream cheese, softened
1.5 cups Bisquick (or make your own by mixing the dry ingredients of your pancake recipe)
1.5 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 package (about 30 oz) frozen shredded hash browns (about 4 cups)
Instructions:
Preheat over to 400 degrees.
Mix all ingrediants (I use my hands – but if you have a KitchenAid mixer, throw on the dough attachment)
Roll into 1.5 inch balls, place on baking sheet and bake for about 20 minutes or until brown.
If you want to freeze for later: lay them out on a baking sheet, freeze uncooked and store in a freezer bag. (Baking time will increase if you bake frozen.)
