After having their regular season cut short due to Covid-19, the 6-0 Lisbon Broncos were eager to get back on the field for their opening-round game of the North Dakota Division-A State Football Tournament aginst the 4-4 Harvey/Wells County Hornets. The Hornets came into the game, as head coach Bret Dockter said, “battle-tested” with Lisbon being the third section champion Harvey/Wells County would face this season.
Lisbon wasted no time getting on the board as they were able to get a touchdown on their first play from scrimmage via a 65-yard run by QB Hunter Schultz. Schultz would add another touchdown to his total for the game, but the CI Sport player-of-the-game honors for the Broncos had to go to Senior RB Jordan Sours, who scored a trio of touchdowns this afternoon for Lisbon en route to their 38-24 victory over Harvey/Wells County.
The Hornets put up a good fight, especially late in the game with 16 of their 24 points coming in the fourth quarter. QB Isaac Freise threw for all three of Harvey/Wells County’s touchdowns to three different receivers: Madden Thorson, Alex Erickson, and Keaton Keller.
This marks the end of Harvey/Wells County’s season, and they will finish with a 4-5 record. With this victory, Lisbon will advance to the quarterfinals where they will host the winner of the Grafton/Sargent County game on October 31.
