LISBON N.D. – The third-ranked Lisbon Broncos faced off against the fourth-ranked Oakes Tornadoes with each team looking to keep their perfect records intact. Lisbon started the game out strong, scoring 22 points in the first half while shutting Oakes out. The Broncos had a commanding lead on the scoreboard in the first half, but they also held a dominated the time of possession 19:37 to Oakes’ 4:23.
Oakes gained momentum in the third quarter by scoring a touchdown and holding Lisbon scoreless to shrink the deficit to 15 points heading into the fourth quarter. But, Lisbon held strong and QB Hunter Schultz put the nail in the coffin with a touchdown with just over five minutes remaining in the game.
Lisbon did not attempt a single pass in the game but made up for it with 367 rushing yards. Schultz had 196 of the Broncos yards and 2 touchdowns as well. Jordan Sours had 118 rushing yards and a touchdown of his own, while Boeden Greenley had the fourth touchdown for Lisbon.
Oakes managed 171 total yards in tonight’s game, 135 on the ground, and 36 through the air. Quarterback Garret Meehl accounted for 132 total yards, 96 rushing and 36 passing, as well as the Tornadoes’ only score.
This victory brings Lisbon’s overall record to 5-0 on the season and 4-0 in Region 1 play. This loss drops Oakes to 3-1 on the season and in Region 1 as well. Lisbon’s next contest will be Friday, October 2 at home against Thompson, whose lone loss this season was to Oakes. Oakes will be on the road again next week against Oak Grove. Both games are slated to start at 7:00 PM.
