George H. W. Bush was a patriot. He served his country in so many capacities that even the best historian might forget some. His resume includes a ton of roles, not the least of which was President.
In 1992 he lost his race for President. Bill Clinton beat him. Some might say it was because of a tax pledge he didn’t stick to, others say it was because of a third party candidate. At the end of the day, it didn’t matter, he lost.
After the election he did what patriots do: he acknowledged defeat and congratulated the winner. He helped the country move on.
That’s because he loved the country more than himself.
President Trump has proved he doesn’t. He’s made it clear if he loses he won’t accept the results. In fact, he’s already given a number of scenarios why he won’t accept the results, which will allow him to sell a loss by saying ‘I told you so’.
I didn’t vote for George H. W. Bush. But, I did respect him. I never doubted for a moment his dedication to American, and I never doubted his morals.
I never doubted his dedication and morals because he was a Patriot. And, in his America, we were all welcome.
Good riding with you,
Joel
