Nisswa Mayor Fred Heidmann arrested
PEQUOT LAKES, MN (KFGO) – Nisswa Mayor Fred Heidmann says he was concerned a traffic stop would give visiting tourists a bad impression.
Heidmann is charged with obstruction for confronting Pequot Lakes police officers while they were stopping a car. He was arrested after refusing multiple commands to back away from officers, who were searching the car. Heidmann was at his nearby business when he saw the traffic stop take place last Saturday afternoon.
The profanity-filled encounter was captured on body-cam video.
The mayor says he’s going to fight the charges stemming from his arrest on Highway 371 between Baxter and Pequot Lakes.
