FARGO (KFGO) – Whether Fargo will require people to wear face masks in an effort to slow the spread COVID-19 will be on Monday’s city commission agenda for the first time.
Commissioner John Strand has come up with two options. The first would mandate face coverings to be worn in all public settings. The second option has “targeted” policies. One requires city employees or those working for the city to wear masks when they have contact with the public at city hall or other city facilities. Another would mandate masks for MAT bus drivers and riders. The proposal also says police would provide support for businesses with mask policies should they need assistance handling troublesome customers.
Strand says in his four years as a commissioner, he’s never had this much public response. 90% support some type policy for face masks. He says people are worried, scared, and terrified of the pandemic.
No other North Dakota community has yet approved a mask mandate. Governor Burgum says such a decision should be left up to businesses and schools and he has no plan for a mask requirement.
