Warm temperatures boosted crop development during the week ending July 12, 2020, according to USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service, with 4.8 days suitable for fieldwork in Minnesota.
There were reports of crop damage in the West-Central part of the State caused by high winds and hail.
Field activities included cutting hay and limited spraying.
Silked corn at 21% and conditions remained at 85% good to excellent.
Soybeans blooming reached 67%, 10% of the crop setting pods, and conditions remained at 83% good to excellent.
Spring wheat headed reached 94%, turning color at 19%, and conditions at 76% good to excellent.
Oats heading was nearly complete at 97%, turning color at 55%, and conditions at 70% good to excellent.
Nearly all the barley crop was headed at 97% headed, with 31% coloring, and conditions at 73% good to excellent.
Sunflower condition rating decreased slightly to 72% good to excellent.
Potato condition increased to 93% good to excellent.
Sugarbeet condition remained at 95% good to excellent.
Dry beans blooming at 62%, setting pods at 21% with condition up slightly to 86% good to excellent.
Minnesota’s second cutting of alfalfa hay was 56% completed.
All hay conditions declined slightly to 61% good to excellent.
