Columbus statute topped in St. Paul
ST. PAUL, MN (KFGO) – Republican Senators Carla Nelson from Rochester and Bill Ingebrigtsen of Alexandria want to know when the Minnesota Historical Society plans to re-install the Christopher Columbus statue.
The monument was toppled by protesters toppled on the State Capitol grounds last month.
Nelson said demonstrators “cannot just go out and destroy public property, particularly historic property at a Capitol just because they don’t like it.”
Nelson acknowledges a re-interpretation of the historical record surrounding Columbus should be included when the statue is put back up.
