GRAND FORKS, ND (KFGO) – A second day and night of severe weather across parts eastern North Dakota and northwestern Minnesota produced heavy rain, hail, high winds, power outages and caused power outages. 60 to 70 mph winds were clocked in many locations Monday into Tuesday morning.
Large tree branches and power lines were down in Chafee in Cass County. Metal roofing was torn off a pole shed near Arthur. Power was out in rural areas, including Rothsay, Minn. Power was out to most of Wahpeton as the storm hit about 2 a.m. bringing down trees and power lines. Otter Tail Power had most of the power restored within several hours.
Tornado warning sirens were activated in the Grand Forks area on Monday afternoon. A twister was reported near Middle River, Minn. Heavy rains and wind caused roof damage and snapped branches in Kennedy, Minn. One inch or greater hail was reported in and around Arvilla, Manvel, Alvarado, Grafton, and near Park River. Hail the size of half-dollars was reported near Vining, Minnesota.
