FARGO, N.D. (KFGO) – Severe weather hit the region Sunday night and early this morning. Early reports from the National Weather Service office in Grand Forks said about an inch fell at the Fargo Airport by 2 a.m. with rain expected to continue today. 1-to-3 inches was reported in the Casselton-area and points north.
Weather Service Meteorologist Carl Jones says two systems rolled through Fargo, about 10 p.m. and another about 12 midnight. A peak wind gust of 71 mph was clocked at Hector Aiport in the first storm. Shortly after midnight, a gust front crossing I-29 between Harwood and Argusville cause vehicles to slide on the pavement. A nearby wind sensor reported peak winds at 79 mph.
There have been scattered outages throughout the metro. Xcel Energy reported more than 3500 customers affected by power outages as of 3 a.m. Cass County Electric’s outage map showed about 1400 customers throughout its system stretching into rural area’s outside of Fargo. Tree branches are down in many parts of Fargo. A large tree was toppled outside the Clay County Court and there has also been scattered street flooding, most of it caused by tree debris plugging storm drains. As of 2:30 a.m., the North University Drive underpass near Main Avenue was flooded. The Weather Service said it also had reports of downed power lines in Dilworth.
The National Weather Service says heavy rainfall and large hail was reported in the northern Valley. Anywhere from 4 to 7 inches was reported in the Stephen-Hallock area’s.
