FARGO (KFGO) – Some Fargo School District parents have signed a Change.org petition asking that the administration revise its high school graduation plans.
The district is only allowing students and staff to attend the events. Lori McClary is a North High School parent who has triplets graduating later this month.
“School has been their whole life, their parents are their whole life and now they’re saying no, you can’t attend, you can watch it on Youtube on your couch at home,” McClary said. “This is huge for them and most of the kids that I have talked to want their parents there,” she added.
Superintendent Rupak Gandhi said the decision to exclude parents is supported by medical professionals, including Fargo-Cass Public Health, who feel it could pose a health risk. He says the district has a responsibility to the broader community to help slow the spread of Covid-19.
The district has scheduled outdoor graduations at Davies and North High Schools.
