For the week ending May 17, 2020 there were just over 4 days suitable for fieldwork in North Dakota, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.
The 2019 corn harvest continues with little progress made last week with wet conditions but harvest is now at 94 percent.
Soybeans planted at 9 percent behind last year’s 19 percent.
Spring wheat planted at 41 percent and emergence is at 13 percent.
Durum wheat planted at 47 percent and emergence is at 14 percent.
Corn planted at 20 percent with emergence at 1 percent.
Canola planted at 23 percent with emergence at 6 percent.
Sugarbeets planted at 66 percent well behind last year’s 85 percent.
Oats planted at 47 percent and emergence at 18 percent.
Barley planted at 33 percent with emergence at 11 percent.
Dry edible peas planted at 49 percent and emergence at 18 percent.
Sunflowers planted at 2 percent near last year’s 6 percent.
Flaxseed planted at 20 percent with emergence at 2 percent.
Dry edible beans planted at 3 percent last year’s 17 percent.
Most crops are behind last year’s planting progress which maybe due to excess water left from 2019 in the central and eastern parts of the state while extreme dry weather is facing the western part of North Dakota.
