FARGO (KFGO) – A television documentary that highlights how the 1957 Fargo tornado was used to help develop the world-famous Fujita Scale begins next week.
“Mr. Tornado” focuses on meteorologist Ted Fujita and how Fujita’s research of the 1957 Fargo tornado helped save thousands of lives.
Twelve people were killed in the storm. More than 300 homes were destroyed and 1,000 homes were damaged. The National Weather Service says debris from the 1957 tornado was found north of Detroit Lakes, Minn., more than 50 miles away.
The program is part of the PBS series “American Experience” and debuts next Tuesday, May 19.
