BEMIDJI, MN. – A third person has been charged in a Beltrami County homicide and arson case. The charges stem from an early Sunday incident in which a man was found dead inside a burning home and another man suffered gunshot wounds at the residence about 10 miles west of Bemidji.
Arrested Tuesday in Naytahwaush, 32 year old Devin Belcourt of Bagley was charged with second-degree intentional murder, arson, and burglary with a dangerous weapon and explosive.
Two other suspects were arrested earlier this week in Minot: 37-year-old Travis Gunning of Clearbrook and 30-year old Elizabeth Lockman of Bemidji. An amended complaint says Gunning saw Belcourt fatally shoot the first victim and that they then burned down the home in order to conceal the slaying. The second victim was injured after encountering the suspects and trading gunfire with them.
Gunning told investigators they intended to go to the victims’ home and steal drugs, a safe and money. Neither of the victims has been identified.
