MOORHEAD, Minn. (KFGO) – The parents of two brothers who died in a 2015 crash during a school trip have filed a complaint with the Minnesota Dept. of Public Safety.
Zach and Connor Kvalvog of Moorhead were on their way to a basketball camp in Wisconsin when their pickup crashed on I-94 near Dalton, Minn. The brothers were students at Park Christian School in Moorhead.
The boys’ father, Ray Kvalvog, says one of the crash investigators, Minn. State Patrol Sgt. Rod Eischens, had a conflict of interest because of his close ties and friendships with Park Christian School administrators.
“They’re not just close personal friends. They’re way more than that. They’re relatives to a degree, they conduct business together and it’s not just a casual connection.”
“I smelled a rat right away” Kvalvog said. “I knew the events as they occurred, as they were first articulated to Sgt. Rod Eischens by the head basketball coach at the time, Josh Lee, who stated that Zach just drove off the road of his own accord. They’re had to be more to the story than that.”
The official accident report determined that a semi tractor-trailer likely forced the boys’ vehicle off the highway, but despite a nationwide search, the semi was never found.
Minn. Dept. of Public Safety Spokesman Bruce Gordon confirms that Kvalvog’s complaint has been received and is under review. But Gordon says state law prevents the department from commenting or providing a copy of the complaint at this time.
