GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Changes are coming at the University North Dakota. The university plans to reduce the hours of some employees in response to the pandemic.
UND spokesman David Dodds says it will cost und $11 million in revenue this quarter alone. Departments must submit recommendations by May 1 with the reductions to take effect May 16 through July 31.
Dodds says the reduction in hours will depend on the employee. He says some people will be cut to zero hours but will be eligible for unemployment benefits and funding through the CARES Act. Dodds says employees will be able to retain health insurance and no one will be terminated.
NDSU announced earlier the university will be looking at budget cuts but has not yet determined where those reductions will be made.
18 North Dakota universities and colleges are receiving more than $11-million in the second wave of funding for higher education from the nationwide CARE Act. It is the final wave of funds sent to universities to help in recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
