FARGO (KFGO) – North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum says in the immediate days after hair salons, barber shops and other personal care businesses are allowed to re-open, customers may be required to wear a mask.
On KFGO’s News & Views, Burgum said the requirement would protect people who need work in close proximity to their customers. Burgum said the decision to close personal care businesses was made with the support of workers in the industry.
“They may say ‘It’s great you’re here, but you have to wear a mask when you’re sitting in the chair’ ” Burgum said. “There may be new operating procedures in place for people to protect the workers who are doing this important work.”
“If you’re going to get a haircut for 20 or 30 minutes, you might think that wasn’t much exposure, but if you’re standing there cutting someone’s hair and you’re within feet of them all day long, that’s a lot of potential exposure” Burgum said.
Burgum’s original order to close personal care businesses has been extended until May 1. The order also applies to bars, dine-in restaurants, theaters, health clubs and similar businesses.
Takeout, delivery and curbside service is still permitted.
