The North Dakota Medical Reserve Corps is looking for volunteers to help provide medical assistance during public health emergencies. In the podcast below, Tim Wiedrich joins It Takes 2 to talk about the ND Medical Reserve Corps.
They are especially in need of physicians, nurses, paramedics, EMT’s and CDL drivers. Medical and non-medical volunteers are needed are they prepare to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The Corps was created 16 years ago, after the attacks on 9/11. Wiedrich says we realized we needed a more robust medical and public health response team.
All Hazards Approach
The team of volunteers are ready to respond to a wide range of public health issues: tornados, floods, blizzards, and even hurricanes.
When an event occurs, there is a notification for volunteers. The sign-up is not an obligation.
COVID-19
While there has been no formal deployment because of COVID-19, Wiedrich says volunteers have been assisting with reviews of facilities around the state. Those reviews will better inform the department of the potential needs going forward. And, if there is a need to supplement medical staff, the Medical Reserve Corps will be ready.
