While many people are staying home, isolating and social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic, the roads have been quieter. So, you would assume with less traffic, comes less deaths on the roadway. However, in Minnesota, traffic fatalities have DOUBLED this year compared to last year.
From KFGO News: Twenty-eight people died in crashes since March 16th. That compares to 13 last year during the same period, or 15 in 2018, or 17 in 2017. The Minnesota State Patrol is reporting a surge in drivers going too fast.
Not only is this data extremely sad and unfortunate, it’s very telling. It turns out we need to be less concerned about the other people on the road and more concerned about ourselves.
You may be a bigger threat to your safety then the people driving beside you.
Don’t let the lack of traffic give you a false sense of security.
