I have been a fan of Saturday Night Live through almost countless cast members, the good years, the bad years and an endless series of hosts.
You can narrow down someone’s age by asking them what their favorite SNL cast/sketch was. The babies of the 80s tend to lean towards the Mike Meyers/Chris Farley/Adam Sandler years. Anyone who claims the first year was the only good year is almost eligible for retirement benefits. If you get someone who says the Cheerleader skits, they graduated in the early 21st century. Anyone who LOVES the digital shorts is still bogged down in student debt. Easy classification based on cast – musical guest – sketch.
Here are 50 of my favorites – did I miss something? Do you have a collection of videotapes somewhere filled with old episodes? Maybe you just prefer ‘Kids in the Hall’ or ‘MadTV?!?!’
There you go. 50 of my favorite SNL sketches from across the years. Slightly limited to the content that Saturday Night Live has made available, so I was unable to find hidden gems like Tim Jacklepappy or Dr. Uncle Jimmy – but there are a lot of laughs there!
