Brenton Nesemeier, an Epidemiologist for the North Dakota Department of Health, joins Amy & JJ.
COVID-19 Testing
In North Dakota, if you are symptomatic, have traveled or been in close contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19, you will be considered for a test.
Healthcare facilities are doing telehealth appointments if you have symptoms and many are providing “drive up” testing. Sanford just announced today they are able to process results in 90 minutes at both their Sioux Falls and Fargo locations.
What is close contact?
CDC defines “close contact” as someone who has spent 15 minutes or more with you, within a distance of 6 feet.
How does community tracing work?
When the Deptarment of health has a positive COVID-19 test, they will reach out to the person for a list of people they have been in contact with for the last 10-14 days.
If they have not been in contact with anyone who has also tested positive, they are assumed to have contracted the illness through “community spread”.
Snow birds
It is the time of year when those who live in southern states come back to the Midwest. Nesemeier says that if those individuals are able to stay where they are at, that might be the best plan for the time being.
