SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (NDSU Athletics) – North Dakota State thrower Shelby Gunnells and head women’s track & field coach Stevie Keller were honored Wednesday by The Summit League for their outstanding performances in the 2020 indoor track & field season.
Gunnells, a senior from Solon, Iowa, was named the Summit League Indoor Field Athlete of the Year. She earned a No. 8 national ranking in the shot put and also ranked 51st in the country in the weight throw. Gunnells claimed Championship Field MVP honors after winning the shot put and placing third in the weight throw at the conference meet.
Keller claimed Summit League Women’s Indoor Track & Field Coach of the Year for the sixth straight season.
Keller led the NDSU women to their 13th consecutive Summit League indoor championship and 25th straight overall, including outdoor. The Bison captured nine of a possible 17 event titles at the conference meet, plus had the runner-up or third-place finisher in five of the other events.

- Ranked No. 8 in the nation for the shot put with a personal-best mark of 57-02.25 (17.43m)
- Claimed the 2020 Summit League Field Championship MVP accolade after tallying 16 total points for the Bison
- Captured her first career league title, winning the shot put with a mark of 55-07.50 (16.95m)
- Finished third in the weight throw with a personal-best 64-10.50 (19.77m) to move up to No. 7 in NDSU school history
