Most of us want to know if what we are doing during this pandemic is “right”.
I know I am. I have a constant steam of questions going through my mind… Should I be working? Is it okay if my kids are still attending daycare? Should we be disrobing in the garage? Can I go to the grocery store? Can my kids play at the playground?
All of those questions, on top of the fact that it looks like everyone else is doing isolation better than me!? It feels like everyone has cleaned out all of their closets, are exercising more and finding time to binge watch shows.
Meanwhile, I’m over here still begging for a few more hours in my day. Trying to balance the same amount of things I was before all of this: work, home, a husband, small kids. (In fact, it feels like my house is more of a disaster because we are there all the time!)
So, maybe this is a reminder to myself. But, I’ll remind you, too: You’re doing the best you can and that’s enough. One foot in front of the other (as long as it’s to your own kitchen for a snack or out for a walk).
The only thing we can really do is listen to the experts.
If you are isolating when you are able, not going places you don’t need to go, spending minimal time in the places you need to be (a grocery store), maintaining good social distance while in public, washing your hands frequently, not touching your face and staying home at even the slightest symptom, you’re doing it right. And, it’s enough.
You don’t have to repaint your house or have a virtual happy hour every night (although, those are fun) to be doing it “right”. Keep making the best decisions you can for yourself and your family.
And, most importantly, give yourself some grace.
