In the podcast above: Tim Doppler, Executive Director of the North Dakota Golf Association, joins Amy and JJ to talk about golf courses opening in the Bismarck, North Dakota area.
Prairie West in Mandan opened last Sunday and Tom O’Leary and Pebble Creek courses will be opening tomorrow (Wednesday, April 1, 2020).
New Guidelines
Amid concerns of COVID-19, the courses will seem a little different
Reservations must be made online and payment cards on file are required (no cash will be allowed). And, the food and beverage vendor will provide a walk-up window.
Carts will be heavily disinfected between golfers and there may only be one person per cart. In addition, range balls will be delivered to the range by an attendant and push carts will not be available.
But, the biggest change of them all will be at the green. Because a cup would be a high-touch area, all holes will be raised areas instead.
- A ball is considered holed when it touches the raised cup-sized 8” tall target placed on the green. It is very important not to touch this target with your hands. Do not move this target – staff will change these locations throughout the week based on the number of rounds played. A ball is fairly holed when the golf ball strikes near the center of this target. Players are using the “most likely score” on each hole to ensure proper scoring. Golf balls that nick the sides of targets are not fairly holed and should proceed being putted until truly and fairly holed.
Doppler has said these are the guidelines being put into place in Bismarck and he suspects other courses around the state will follow suit.
