FRANKFURT (Reuters) – Top representatives from the German finance ministry and the nation’s top bankers will meet on Friday to discuss measures to combat the impact of the coronavirus, two sources with knowledge of the matter said on Wednesday.
The meeting comes as Germany’s banking lobby called for rules to be eased to help banks through the crisis.
The German meeting includes Finance Minister Olaf Scholz, top officials from Deutsche Bank
The finance ministry declined to comment. The banks did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
The Bank of England announced a surprise rate cut on Wednesday, and other countries are under similar pressure to take urgent steps to fend off a hit to the global economy.
