FARGO (KFGO) – More than 2,200 people are enrolled in North Dakota’s medical marijuana program. Medical Marijuana Division Director Jason Wahl says the growth rate has been much faster than anticipated.
Wahl says there were 2,000 patients enrolled in the program by the end of 2019. He says that threshold wasn’t expected to be reached until June, 30, 2020.
Wahl says several factors are causing patient numbers to grow so quickly.
“The legislature did make changes by adding medical conditions. The legislature provided a reasonable accommodation for veterans who otherwise would not have had a means to probably participate in the program.”
North Dakota voters approved the use of medical marijuana in 2016. There are currently eight medical marijuana dispensaries across the state.
