COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (UND Athletics) – Two more University of North Dakota players earned weekly honors after a sweep of fifth-ranked Denver. Junior Peter Thome was dubbed the National Collegiate Hockey Conference’s Goalie of the Week while classmate Collin Adams picked up league forward of the week accolades. It’s the second weekly award for Thome this season and the first of Adams’ career.
Adams scored in each win as North Dakota moved to 16-1-0 at home this season with the sweep of Denver. He scored a second-period goal Friday to make it 3-1 then potted the game-winner Saturday with his 10th goal of the season. He was the first star of the game Saturday and has now doubled his career high for goals and has tripled his career assist total this season (10-16–26).
Thome continued his outstanding play, holding fifth-ranked Denver to just one goal each night in the sweep of the Pioneers. He made 26 saves in a 4-1 victory Friday, including 11 in the first period, as he earned Second Star of the Game. Six of his saves came short-handed Friday, as he helped kill 3-of-4 DU power plays. The next night, Thome stopped 25 more shots in a 3-1 win, including 10 in the third period with UND clinging to a 2-1 lead. He picked up Third Star of the Game honors Saturday. Thome is now 6-0-1 on the season with a sparkling 1.26 goals against average.
