My daughter had two friends from Mississippi come to visit. In January? Yep! Why? I have no clue, but what a fun adventure for them because neither had ever seen snow before and they thought that was super cool, with one of them jumping in a snowbank squealing with delight as the rest of us were muttering naughty words that aren’t fit for print or air.
Maddie and Tyler got to experience a lot of firsts. Neither had been to North Dakota or Minnesota so they checked those states off their bucket lists. They also headed to Canada for a few days and got to get their passports stamped and were able to knock another country off their “must visit” list. They went ice skating for the first time and also, as requested, I made them Tater Tot hotdish, cheesy hashbrowns, and monkey bread.
I loved it when Tyler said “Minnesota Nice” isn’t just a saying, you guys really are all nice!”
That’s the way it’s done folks. We can all be goodwill ambassadors of our states and communities by showing visitors kindness and hospitality. It’s a great opportunity to showcase our great state/states and learn more about theirs.
A couple of fun observations. The two of them didn’t know what furnaces were because they hardly ever use theirs. They had to Google furnace because they thought these furnaces we were talking about must be wood burning stoves. Lol. They were also confused about that whole plugging in a vehicle thing when the temperature dropped well below zero their final night here. I’m pretty sure their final thoughts as they hopped on a plane to head back home is “ya’ll are crazy living in this cold”. Their brains just couldn’t fathom how it could possibly be -12. Come again in summer Mississippi kids, you’ll love the lakes and mosquitoes.
