Winter can get long and cold around here, but I’m not one to complain. I don’t hate winter. I actually like it. Take for instance the past three days, it’s been absolutely gorgeous out with new fallen snow making everything fresh and white, and beautiful hoar frost coating the trees over the Christmas holiday.
I appreciate the four seasons. While I prefer spring or fall, winter is a-okay with me too. Sure it gets brutally cold some days and that wind can have a bite to it, but those are the days I try to stay inside if possible, pop up the heat a few degrees and maybe crawl under the covers a little sooner. Finding things to do can help provide bright spots and get you through the winter. On those days when the sun is shining and it’s not 20 below, I try to get outside for a walk or get some snowshoeing in. It’s amazing how just spending 15-20 minutes outside in the fresh air and sunshine can lift your mood.
I like to read and build puzzles and watch music and history documentaries so that keeps me busy during the cold winter months. If movies are your thing, use those to “escape” winter. Concerts, plays, and sporting events can also provide a getaway and boost your mood.
One last thing that gets me through January, which is normally brutally cold, is the
Twins Winter Caravan
. I love Twins Baseball, and even though it’s in January, I tried to keep it in perspective knowing Spring Training and baseball season isn’t far off.
