I’m really trying hard to eat super healthy, work out and lose weight. I can do really good for days, weeks and sometimes months at a time but then the train always seems to derail. I had been doing good all week, but then my daughter asked if I wanted to go out Saturday to join a friend and her mom for a couple hours of catching up time. All that was good, but the half of a gigantic platter of chips and queso and another half of an order of pretzels and ranch that my daughter and I shared plus two beverages was enough to put me over my entire week’s calorie allotment.
Instead of beating myself up the next day, I drank a ton of water and hopped on the treadmill. The goal was at least two miles, even though I wanted to give up after mile one. I did one, then two, then convinced myself to shoot for three. At that point, I thought if I did four miles it my help undo some of the damage from the night before. When I got to four I wondered if I could make five miles. I did. Then I started looking at the timer which I think was around 1:30. I then looked to J.J. Gordon for my inspiration. J.J. managed to get his hands on a Never Ending Pasta Pass from Olive Garden. For 9-whole weeks, between Sept. 23 and Nov. 24, J.J. gets to eat all the Olive Garden pasta he can possibly put down. J.J. is a smart man. While it’s cool that he got one of the very limited Never Ending Pasta Passes, he also knew that could be a dangerous game, shoveling all that spaghetti, fettuccine and rigatoni down his gullet. So every time, he goes to Olive Garden and uses his Never Ending Pasta Pass, he also goes to a nearby gym and logs two hours on the treadmill. That’s two long hours, people! I figured if J.J. could do it, so could I. I made it to mile six and then finally to mile seven, which took 2 hours and 1 minutes. Yay me!
Some people might think two hours on a treadmill is nothing, but for those of us who loathe the treadmill or any type of workout, that is an awfully long time. I’m on a mission and I hope to keep it up. Will I do two hours again? I dunno. Will I try? Maybe. My goal is an hour every day, but realistically work and life get in the way sometimes. I guess anything is better than nothing, so I will keep on trying my hardest to force myself on that thing, even if it’s only for 10 or 20 minutes at a time.
