FARGO (KFGO) – Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders has once again promised that if elected, he will shut down the Keystone Oil Pipeline.
In a tweet linked to a news story about the spill near Edinburg, N.D. Thursday, Sanders said “As president, I will shut down the Keystone Pipeline that should never have been built in the first place.”
Sanders also appeared to blame President Trump for the spill.
“This is what happens when we have a president who ignores scientists and puts short-term fossil fuel profits ahead of the environment and the future of the planet.”
The size of the oil spill is estimated at approximately 380,000 gallons.
The North Dakota Health Department’s Dave Glatt said the oil spill is contained to wetlands and believes the environmental risk is low beyond the site.
