Vern Bennett spent almost three decades as Fargo Public Schools top administrator. During his time, strategic planning and growth were challenges that provided a great opportunity to speak directly with the public.
The year he retired, JJ had the chance to work with him briefly in a play that featured Vern as himself – saying goodbye to his profession as he looked back on 28 years of hard work and amazing results.
Those years were honored by FPS naming a new elementary school after him in the fall of 2000.
Then, he went to work as a public servant with the Cass County Commission. Elected and served his terms until the limit – he sat out and ran again when he was able. At the time of his passing, he was still serving as a Commissioner.
Jim Shaw shares memories of working and knowing Vern for over 40 years.
