Dave gets a call from a cemetery caretaker with questions about how low to cut down parts of the grass and perennials. Without missing a beat, Dave provides expert advice on how to keep the rest place of many loved ones green and healthy.
Also in this episode, Dave talks about what should be done with rhubarb as the Fall sets in. Whether or not you should pull up what is there and how to take care of it from the harsh winter conditions.
Like a lot of the year after year plants around here, most are hardly enough to handle a winter where we get cold temperatures because we also get a good snow cover. If we are getting very cold temps before we have had decent snow – you might consider covering those areas with leaves or leaf filled bags for insulation. You can also count on the foundation of your home giving off some heat, so if your plants are alongside your home, you might get some bonus warmth protection.
Lawns should not be too long this time of year or you risk making a swell spot for voles and other rodents to setup for the winter.
