MOORHEAD, MINN. (KFGO) – The owner of the Brookdale Shopping Center in Moorhead has plans to redevelop the site. It includes revamping the former Family Fare grocery store and the addition of a strip mall.
Igor Lenzer, an attorney and consultant for Jordahl and Associates says the empty, 60,000 sq. ft. vacant supermarket is obsolete and nearly impossible to repurpose. The plan would be partially demolished, leaving about 35,000 square feet for new retail space.
It would then be divided into two retail spaces taking up between 12,000 to 18,000 sq. ft. which Lenzer says would be much more likely to be leased. The developer is talking to several potential retailers about the new space.
Lenzer says a foot strip mall would be added to a portion of the huge parking lot that served the former supermarket. It would be about 10,000 sq. ft. with space for four retail stores, likely to include restaurants. There are already verbal commitments for much of that space.
Lenzer and Rick Jordahl recently presented the proposal to Moorhead’s Economic Development Authority. Jordahl is seeking tax increment financing for project. The company hopes to have an answer soon so the work can get underway before it snows and be able to lock in agreements with stores and restaurants.
