While I typically prefer to smoke pork butts for pulled pork, this is a great recipe for making it in the crock pot.
Apple and pork are naturally delicious together, so I decided to roast the pork in an Irish cider. The recipe is simple. Put it in the crock pot before leaving for work and you’ll have delicious pork for dinner.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- 1 3-4lb pork butt roast
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp ground black pepper
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 2 (16 oz) bottles cider (or your favorite beer)
- barbeque sauce, Cole slaw, and potato buns for serving
- Set the slow cooker to High.
- Place the pork in the slow cooker. Season top of pork with salt, pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder. Pour beer into the bottom of the slow cooker and place the lid on the slow cooker.
- Cook pork on High for 1 hour, then reduce heat to Low and cook for at least 8 hours.
- Remove pork from the slow cooker and shred with two forks.
Serve on potato buns topped with Cole slaw and BBQ sauce.
