Comparing Zorbaz to a fine wine doesn’t really fit their vibe, so instead we’ll say this. Like a classic concert t-shirt, Zorbaz gets more epic with every year.
(Derek Hanson and Zorbas CEO Cole Hanson in the KFGO studios)
Cole Hanson stops into the KFGO studios to tell the story of his parents taking a small candy shop in Detroit Lakes and 50 years later, being a part of the fabric of “Minnezota” lake life.
Intersting fact, Zorbaz is named after the immensely popular film “Zorba the Greek.”
Cole also provides some insight on how a location is selected. Spoiler alert, it takes a lot of time and an active community to catch the attention of Zorbaz location “zeekerz.”
KFGO listeners also get to hear Derek Hanson share his memories of working at the Pelican Lake location as a bouncer.
Lastly, it’s not just great pizza and Mexican food – the FASHION from Zorbaz also plays a part. You’d be hard pressed to find a cottage on any of the major lakes that do not have a sweatshirt or tank top from one year or another. In fact, some people even include classic Zorbaz wear in their last wishes. Making sure the next generation of party animals are outfitted for summer fun.
Whether you stop there on the way to the lake, every 4th of July or when you are pulling the boat out of the water, it’s hard to say that Zorbaz is showing their age. Here is to the last 50 and the next 50. Cheerz!
