If you had to guess…how often do you think you should be having an appraisal done on jewelry that is expensive enough to insure? JJ guessed every 10 years. WRONG! Brenda Giere from Schmidt’s Gems & Fine Jewelry says that every 2 to 3, 4 at most, is the advisable timeframe. Changes in gold prices, the gem industry and a lot of other factors go into assessing the value of your personal items. Can you imagine a wedding ring that cost $1,000 in 2002 not getting checked up on and then finding out the appraised value in 2019 is closer to $2,500 – it makes replacing that item very costly if your insurance provider only has outdated information to rely on.
Getting an appraisal done is a snap. Drop off the items and get them back in a snap. Now you have fresh paperwork in case of the unthinkable.
Imagine dropping a ring off the side of a boat, a thief breaking into your home and taking off with some pearls or grandpa’s college ring disappearing in a move.
