Bruce Bekkerus from A-1 Automotive in Moorhead, MN has a rich history with KFGO as our resident mechanic. For years, Bruce has been taking YOUR questions about tires, valves, transmissions, lights, belts, and anything else that can keep your car from running.
In This Episode:
Bruce takes a lot of text messages!
A Volkswagon Beetle owner is worried they have a bad oil pump and would like to know what some of the warning signs are. Bruce says, “Other than it just not going anymore,” there can be a lot of warnings. Looking for a code that indicates oil pressure has dropped or finding oil on the ground can be indicators – but if you are concerned that there is a problem, it’s best to bring it in and get the pump looked at before you are stranded on the side of the road.
One listener has a 2017 Dodge Ram 1500 that indicated it needed a new rotor for the ABS system. Switched it, still indicated it needed a different rotor. Tried again. ABS light still on. Bruce suggests that this might be a misdiagnosis. The sensor is triggering a problem and it might not have anything to do with the rotor at all. Hear his suggestions on what might be the issue at hand.
A parent even asked about their children cutting the top off of an 85 Ford Econoline Van for a homecoming car. Bruce says you are good to go, but be mindful of the electrical wires afterward. Throw on some nuts and tape them off so you don’t wind up with a low electrical draw!
