WASHINGTON (KFGO) – The Pentagon has been testing high-altitude surveillance balloons over several Midwestern states including Minnesota and South Dakota.
A report in The Guardian says up to 25 solar-powered balloons are being launched from South Dakota and drifting over Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Missouri and Illinois.
The report says the balloons are carrying hi-tech radars designed to simultaneously track individual vehicles day or night, through any kind of weather.
The American Civil Liberties Union is expressing privacy concerns about the government’s ability to track any vehicle wherever it goes.
