Skeeters, skeeters and more skeeters
If you think there has been a lot mosquito spraying this summer… you’d be right. Ben Prather, Cass County Vector Control, says it seems the high point of the season is behind us. However, at some points, they were seeing traps at 5-6 times higher than usual.
Prather says this summer has been “brutal”. Frequent high amounts of rain and warm weather have created ideal conditions for mosquitoes.
West Nile
There have been no west nile cases on the eastern part of the state, however, Prather says they have seen a high count of the mosquito that carries the virus.
August is the primary west nile “season”. And, as Prather says, “it only takes one bite”. So, be sure to take all precautions.
Did you know?
Across the globe there are 3500 different mosquito species, but fortunately, Cass County only has about 20-25 that live here. And, Prather notes we have about a dozen we’re worried about controlling.
