See It, Stream It or Skip It: Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, The Art of Self Defense & Matinee

Every week, IT2 weighs in on what they think you should SEE in theaters, STREAM from the comfort of your own couch or SKIP and save some time/money. This week, we go back to the 60’s with the latest Tarentino flick and a Cold War coming of age film plus a dark comedy that is too dark and not enough comedy.

SEE IT – Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

Set against the lead up to Sharon Tate’s murder by members of the Manson Family. This movie centers on a washed up actor and his stunt double. As they navigate their way through a soundtrack lover’s dream on the radio. Old cars, old clothes and a who’s who of today’s Hollywood. WARNING: This movie is almost 3 hours long and has an extremely violent ending. Definitely not for everyone. If you liked Pulp Fiction or Django Unchained, this is up your alley.

STREAM IT – Matinee

One of JJ’s favorite movies. Set in 1962 during the Cuban missile crisis, this movie is about a teenage boy who loves monster movies and there just happens to be a new movie in town – along with the director (an Alfred Hitchcock inspired) a man named Lawrence Woolsey, played by John Goodman. Atomic energy! A poet greaser! And more!

SKIP IT – The Art of Self Defense

A dark comedy that is too dark and not enough comedy. Maybe some folks will get a kick, no pun intended, out of this flick – but the majority will wish they had their two hours back.
