WEST FARGO, N.D. – A West Fargo High School graduate who became an astronaut and flew in space is appearing in a live Skype event at the West Fargo City Hall.
Tony England became the youngest scientist selected to join the NASA astronaut corps at age 25 and served as a support crewman for the Apollo 13 and 16 flights. He logged more than 3,000 hours of flying time and 188 hours in space.
England was aboard the space shuttle Challenger as a member of the Spacelab-2 mission in 1985. He retired from NASA in 1988.
England was born in Indianapolis, but considers West Fargo his hometown. He graduated from high school in 1959. He earned his undergraduate, masters and doctoral degrees from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
The event is Tuesday at 3 p.m.
