Extra Crews on Board
City Forester Scott Liudahl says tree damage is widespread throughout Fargo from last Saturday’s storm that clocked winds at 80 mph at times.
Forestry crews, with assistance from the street department, were out as soon as the storm passed, starting a clean-up that will likely last several weeks. City crews used heavy equipment to move trees off streets that were blocked.
Residential Pick-up
Because of the storm, the clean-up will be an extension of their brush recycling program that runs May 1 – October 31, where residents can put out brush out on their recycling day to be picked up.

Be Patient
With the volume of brush in the aftermath of the storm, Liudahl says, “we will be behind… be patient.” He suspects the clean-up could take up to a month.
He says clean-up will go faster if cut ends of branches are put toward the curb and brush is spread out on the boulevard. It’s much easier “grab and go” instead of trying to pick apart a heaping pile.
Luidahl says once initial clean-up is completed, forestry crews will do a post-wind inspection, checking for tree’s that were damaged which are not yet evident. Luidahl says private contractors will be brought in to assist in the work.
