The 3rd of July is the day Addison, Texas renames itself “Kaboom Town” and it’s a celebration that brings in a half a million people every year to the small Texas town, about an hour north of Dallas.
In this podcast: Addison’s Director of Special Events, Jasmine Lee, joins It Takes Takes 2 to talk about their town and their Texas-sized celebration.
Everything is bigger in Texas
Addison, Texas seems to take that line seriously. At a population of just 16,000 people, you’d be surprised to know they have nearly 200 restaurants and can boast up to a daytime population of 125,000 people during the day.
“It’s the busiest small town in Texas,” says Lee.
Kaboom Town
The 3rd of July is Kaboom Town’s day to shine. A carnival, an airshow and a fireworks show that has enthusiasts waiting up to 10 hours and every business bursting at the seams with huge watch parties.
Everyone has a watch party. Even a jewelry store and the McDonald’s.
As Lee says, “it’s like the crowd of multiple SuperBowls… so, you can imagine what happens after the fireworks… everyone trying to leave at the same time.” So, don’t worry, they have a band a party afterward for those not wanting to fight the crowds right away.
